Jamis mentions this over at 37signals and I totally agree with him. The keyboard shortcut icons don't make any sense. I rather have the Microsoft's way of annotating shortcuts with all the keys spelled out, e.g. Ctrl-C or Ctrl-Alt-Del (my personal favorite combination 
). Or even better, Apple could just print the icons on the keys themselves.

Interesting. I have a first generation macbook, a year-old macbook pro and a wireless keyboard and none of them have the Alt icon on the key. They all have the command key icon, however.

You are right! After googling around a little bit I found out that some of the keyboards have the icons and some doesn’t. Check out the examples below. Some of the older macbook pro with the bevel keys have the icons, while others done. :/
